Workshop: Jumpstart your Konnector

Presenter: Viktor Uygan
Description: Join Viktor Uygan, the creator of the innovative Konnector system, in this dynamic workshop that will give you the tools to use the Konnector for your own workouts, as well as with all of your clients. You will experience new functional movement possibilities moving two, three or four limbs independently but connected to each other. On the Konnector Reformer you will discover how connecting arms and legs through a single rope and pulley system offers unique movement opportunities and multiples the original Pilates repertoire. Workshop: Group Reformer Programming- Back Line Activation

Description: The purpose of this workshop is to give you, the Pilates teacher, a new perspective on the meaning of “back extension”. To give you another lens with which to teach your Reformer classes with the emphasis being the backline of the body, as opposed to the typical frontline of the body and “abs” approach that clients most frequently come in for.

Workshop: Hip-Notizer

Description: A well-functioning hip is essential for performing daily and athletic activities and to preventing arthritis and dysfunction. Learn how to work the hip from all angles using the Reformer and the Tower. Stimulating the hip joint from every angle and creating balanced strength help clients to perform better, move better and decrease discomfort. Learn sequences and progressions for clients at every level of ability.

Workshop: Instability & Pilates - Finding Balance

Description: Adding the small but versatile MOTR to the Mat increases core work, balance and coordination. Learn several sequences using the MOTR to challenge your more advanced clients, train athletes and add variety to your classes. Learn the dos and don’ts of using unstable surfaces safely while adding creativity and fun to your Pilates workouts.

Workshop: The Shoulder in 360°

Presenter: Joy Puleo & Dr. Deepali Gupta
Description: This dynamic workshop explores muscular balance, coordination, strength and flexibility of the shoulder. We will literally journey 360 degree around the Pilates chair as we examine exercises from all positions to facilitate optimal functioning of the shoulder complex. We will look at the relationships of the anatomy of the shoulder to function and integrate the function of the shoulder with thoracic mobility and ultimately to whole body movement. Come and learn shoulder focused exercises that are safe, practical and immediately applicable to practice in both private, semi-private and group settings.

Description: The BOX is an amazing tool that can be utilized in many different positions on the Reformer (and with other apparatus as well) to both assist and challenge all ranges and levels of clients.

Workshop: Reforming Flexibility

Presenter: Viktor Uygan
Description: Many clients miss the potential flexibility benefits of Pilates by failing to adequately stabilize body segments or by allowing undesired compensations to occur when end ranges of motion are approached. This workshop will provide easy assessment tools, cues, and stretches on the Reformer that can be added to a movement session without breaking the flow. The focus will be on providing exercises for the spine, hip, and shoulder that incorporate static, PNF, dynamic, and functional approaches in a progressive manner. These exercise progressions will both improve flexibility and help prepare clients for classical repertoire that demands large ranges of motion.

Workshop: The Pelvic Floor

Description: Ask your client to activate the pelvic floor and they will often raise their eyebrows both in confusion and hope that what they are feeling is what you are asking. While pelvic floor research is often confusing and contradictory, one thing is certain, movement and exercise is beneficial for maintaining pelvic floor health. In this course you will learn practical and effective exercises designed to address the pelvic floor and to maintain healthy pelvic floor tone. Using the MOTR we will explore the pelvic floor through movement and learn how to address many common pelvic floor issues and dysfunctions.

Workshop: Upper Body Training - Balancing Mobility & Stability

Description: The dynamic nature of the shoulder and upper body is challenging to both understand and to train. Gaining an understanding of how to balance the mobility and stability of the upper body greatly influences the effectiveness of your client’s workout. Using the five key principles of upper body training protocol, we will review sequences that will create, seek out, and enhance optimal strength and mobility of the upper body.

Workshop: Training Athletes on the Reformer

Description: What professional dancers discovered years ago, other athletes that play football, basketball, hockey, tennis, and golf; as well as runners, cyclists and gym enthusiasts, are discovering now – is that Pilates is one of the best forms of conditioning for any top-tier athlete. Pilates’ integration of the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle and emphasis on proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment and smooth flowing movement allow athletes to access each part of the body individually, and become familiar with the functional mechanics. With Pilates training, athletes can hit the ball farther, run faster, jump higher, cycle longer, safely lift more weight – and they do it without pain or injury to themselves.

Workshop: Linear and Spiral Box

Description: Experience using the long box on the reformer without either sitting or laying on it! This workshop will teach connections between the lower body, spine, and upper body and how they relay each other to move while sitting or standing.  Learn new Reformer exercises, sequences, and progressions to create the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. Challenge your clients with standing exercises, balance exercises, and sequences with the sitting box that will expand your concepts of what is possible on the Reformer.

Description: In the 1800s menopausal women were considered to be ‘hysterical’. In the 1950s menopause was referred to as ‘the change’. Today, understanding the natural progression of menopause allows us to embrace life between 45 and 65 years of age as an opportunity to explore our changing and adapting bodies. Join Joy for a workshop filled with movement, play and learning. Through the exploration of the physiology behind menopause we can realize the possibilities of fitness and Pilates inspired movement training to empower our body’s ability to stay strong, healthy and vital throughout life.
